My personal choice of races are low field handicaps were the favourite historically hardly ever finishes 1st.
This information is readily available in electronic form or simply buying The Sun newspaper.
Lets look at the newspaper first.
After every race on the racing pages there is a small line of figures preceded by “where the favourites finished”
eg Where the favourites finished 1 3 4 2 5 6
this indicates where the favourite finished in this race in preceding years. what we are looking for is a trend of non favourite winners so that we can disregard the favourite when making our selections therefore making the odds even more in our favour.
Next we need suitable odds for the next best fancied horses if we are going to back the next 4 horses in the betting we need odds of the 2nd favourite to be at least 4/1 to make our return worthwhile.
Now lets look at a Friday meeting of July 17 2009 at Newmarket. (simply because this is the day I wrote this page)
